July 5, 2008

Do you still remember Thomas Beatie? He already gave birth to a baby girl through normal delivery. Yup, the transgender man who chose to be pregnant through artificial incrimination. If you can still remember guys he did this because his wife cannot conceive due to previous surgery (hysterectomy). As expected, even though he was the one who bore the child he will still be known as her father.

Waiter Rewarded For Returning P1M

June 26, 2008

A Filipino waiter, who once worked as an OFW in Singapore, went back to the Philippines and work in a restaurant, is rewarded P100,000 for having returned with all humility and honesty to the rightful owner a bag containing P1,000,000, which was left by the customer at the restaurant. Without thinking twice, the kind-hearted waiter did not exchange his dignity for the P1M, despite his family’s financial situation where he played as the breadwinner. Well, a person who is worth-emulating truly deserves such a reward or even more.

Tiger Woods won the 108th US Open recently after days of playing. He beat Rocco Mediate after the sudden playoff Monday. This only shows how seasoned Tiger is. This is the third US Open title won by Tiger Woods. He had an aching left knee the whole week but then he survived the battle. Congratulations! He truly deserves the title.

New Yorker in Tondo

New Yorker in Tondo is a story about a Filipino who used to live in Tondo (a squatters area in Manila ) and had a fortune to live in New York. After several years of living in New York, he visited Tondo again and he no longer knew how to speak the Filipino language because of the so-called “a culturization”. The main actor of the story is obviously ashamed of his origin. And this is true among Filipinos abroad. Let’s be proud of our country because whichever way we look at it, we will always be a Filipino.

Cory Aquino’s Painting Sold for Charity

May 19, 2008

Though struggling with colon cancer herself, Cory Aquino, the former president is trying to help those who are fighting a lonely battle against the disease. She donated her acrylic painting to be auctioned and the painting fetched P600,000 given to breast cancer victims. Mrs. Aquino was so happy that in one way or another she was able to alleviate others of their suffering. Good work of charity which I hope will be emulated by others.

Angel Network

April 2, 2008

I was watching Oprah Winfrey’s show on T.V. one night when it featured an episode about self-sacrifice, giving and sharing for the good of others. Angel Network was a foundation she formed aimed toward that noble cause and they were soliciting funds.

My heart was touched by an 11-year old boy, who for years had been saving all the he could earn through jobs like baby-sitting, etc., so that he could fulfill his dream to go to Disney World. But when the boy heard about Angel Network, he asked his Mom to donate all the money he was able to save to that foundation because he thinks that others needed it most that he did. So his mother gave his money and wrote Oprah what had happened.

What happens next was amazing. Oprah referred this story to Disney World officials who, in turn, rewarded the boy and his entire family an all expense paid two-week vacation (airfare and accommodations) plus pocket money to Disney World.
