My son is half-Puerto Rican and half Chinese. We are currently living in the US, where my wife and I first knew each other. My wife is pure Chinese, while I am 100% Puerto Rican. As expected, my son is confused most of the time about his roots and the contrasting traditions that, we, his parents teach him.
Just yesterday, I bought him a guiro instrument at Musicians Friend to teach him about his musical roots (half of his roots, anyway). The funny thing is my wife bought him his first pair of chopsticks as well! My wife and I are careful not to overwhelm him with all the information we want him to learn about our different roots. We know how difficult it is to balance out the two races!
