One-Minute Mediation Really Works

We all think that we are victims of not-enough time – we claim we don’t have enough time to eat healthily, we don’t have enough hours in the day to exercise….the excuses go on and on! But the truth is that we have all the time in the world… or at least all of the time that we need. Think about all of those minutes wasted sitting is a semi paralytic state in front of the tv, eyes glazed over, watching some dreary new program designed to whittle away those precious minutes of your day with some utter nonsense! The things that you could be doing in those spare minutes that could transform your life from a perfect expression of suffering to a perfect expression of peace and joy. Here are just a few examples of things that you may wish to consider, some helpful, relaxing tasks that, if set in a daily routine, can really bring about subtle but profound transformations.

There are many forms of meditation and many meditation teachers. It all points (or should point) to the same end: peace, happiness, non-suffering. There are some great websites out there that can help teach you to meditate (think the Dalai Lama’s website, or The Art of Meditation). If you really want to take the time to commit to learning to meditate, why not go on a meditation retreat?  Retreat Centres like Poulstone Court in Herefordshire offer week long Meditation Retreats where you can go, unwind, let go of all of the troubles of your daily life and simply learn to be with yourself in peace.

Ten-Minute Pilates

Ten minutes is all you need for a stronger, leaner body within 3 weeks – just follow the workouts that you will find on YouTube!  Most Pilates workouts focus on your ‘core’ abdominal muscles, so it’s a great exercise regime for anyone looking for a flat stomach.  The exercises are gentle and low impact but they really work, lengthening and strengthening your muscles without adding bulk.  Gwyneth Paltrow is a fan, and if it’s good enough for her….

Fifteen Minutes of Reading

Switch off your mobile phone, unplug the laptop and sink into bed with a good book.  Research shows that just fifteen minutes of reading at bedtime can help your brain to let go of the stresses and strains of the day and prepare you for a restful sleep.  Just try to choose something suitable for bedtime – this is probably not the best time to sink your teeth into some gritty crime fiction!

Five Minute Stir Fry

There is no excuse not to eat healthily with the range of ready-prepared stir fries and salads available. And there is no healthier diet than the Vegan diet! Just add your choice of finely sliced vegetables (broccoli, carrots, mangetout and peppers are a delicious combination!), a splash of soy sauce and your own additional choice of sauce spruce it up, and serve with noodles or by itself. Dinner in minutes.

It’s easier than you might think to fit things into even the busiest day, you just need a little know-how.
