Cat Power

August 5, 2008

This is not about a real cat. This is all about a singer’s album namely The Greatest Cat Power. Cat power, aka Chan Marshall, might be mentioned in same breath as Norah Jones in this album. Both come out as subdued, quiet, and lovely. Both sing for wistful rainy days and daunting Sunday mornings. They have the same fragility in the piano tinkling and cool vocal. But Cat Power in The Greatest has a more charming weariness and lovely desperation. The title track, which is also track one, sets the pace for the entire album. “Could We” breaks the sad monotony with its upbeat groove but “Empty Shell” shifts the gear back down. “Love & Communication” ends it perfectly.

I like Cat Power's "Werewolf."
